Earlier I told you about the electric, all-wheel-drive concept that Kia was bringing to the Chicago Auto Show. Unfortunately, at that time Kia was still playing coy and didn’t give up any information. Well, now that is somewhat over, as the Korean automaker has just revealed that this model will be called the Trail’ster. In addition to the revealing of the name, Kia also released a few bits of information and a new teaser image (above).

Though the teaser image doesn’t show us too much, Kia did state that the Trail’ster will feature a rugged look and a fully retractable canvas roof. The latter is the most intriguing, as I am unsure if this will be a full roof like the Wrangler or more like the sliding canvas insert on the Fiat 500C. Either way it is a cool concept, but I am definitely hoping for something more like the Wrangler, as the 500C’s convertible roof looks funky to me.

Also revealed in the press release is that the Trail’ster will be turbocharged, and I feel confident saying that it will be the 1.6-liter engine that the Hyundai Veloster Turbo uses. Additionally, the all-wheel-drive system will be a rear-mounted electric system, which should combine nicely with that turbocharged engine to give the Trail’ster light off-road credentials and a little pep in its step.

For now, all I can do is speculate, but the model will make its debut on February 12, 2015 at 9 a.m, central time. We are sure to learn all of the juicy bits at that time, and find out if this model has any sort of production future.
