Anyone who’s been doubting that Lamborghini is delivering serious performance that’s still relevant in today’s automotive world needs to watch the video below. It’s of the Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce screaming around the mighty Nurburgring Nordschleife in just 6:59.73.
The video’s not really glamorous to watch, but it is impressive for anyone familiar with the famous German track. Because automaker’s love to use the ‘Ring as a performance benchmark, it does provide a good idea of how different models stack up against each other. The Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 Superveloce achieved a time that’s nine seconds quicker than the bonkers Nissan GT-R Nismo. It’s also about three seconds slower than the absolutely insane Porsche 918 Spyder. That’s some impressive company to be keeping.
Funny enough, Lamborghini says that it wasn’t even trying to post a brag-worthy Nurburgring lap time, which is likely why official timekeepers weren’t on hand. The video is from a development test for the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires that the supercar will wear. It’s pretty safe to say that the tires probably work pretty well.
For those not familiar with the LP750-4 Superveloce, it’s the ultra-rare, super high-performance version of the Aventador. According to Lamborghini, it’s the fastest, most performance-oriented series model it’s ever put out. By using plenty of carbon fiber and other lightweight materials, Lamborghini was able to drop about 110 pounds from the supercar’s curb weight. The Italians also squeezed the V-12 engine for another 50 horsepower, bringing the total up to 740. Some significant aero parts were also added, helping keep the vehicle grounded to the ground, as Camry owners are wont to say.
Of course, all of that engineering wizardry costs money. Add to that the fact that Lamborghini is only making 600 of the new model, and that jacks the price up higher. Those who have a nice trust fund or highly profitable business can shell out almost $500,000 for the vehicle, which is about $100,000 more than the regular version of the car.
