Subaru Will Tease Us With A BRZ STI Sport Concept
Subaru keeps teasing us with BRZ STI concepts and rumors that a production version is on the way, and we’re about to go for another round. Motor Authority says the Japanese automaker is bringing a BRZ STI Sport concept to the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon.
Supposedly, the big difference is this version of the BRZ STI is “more mature.” Does that mean it holds a steady job, moved out of its mom’s basement and is ready for long-term commitment? I really don’t care, because I wish Subaru would just commit to making a production version of the car already!
About the only thing we know is the car rides on 18-inch aluminum wheels, plus wears a few STI body mods, like side skirts and a front lip spoiler. Of course, there’s no news about the engine, especially any forced induction, because that’s the most important part. We already know the BRZ handles like a dream, but its punch is about as weak as a 7 year-old boy’s.
So is this just Subaru getting our collective hopes up again, just to dash them? I don’t know, because at this point I’m incredibly skeptical a BRZ STI will ever come to market. You’re better off just building one yourself, factory warranty be damned. Prove me wrong, Subaru, prove me wrong.
