The Lexus LF-SA Leaks Ahead of its Debut

To some this leak may be a relief and to others it may shatter their dreams. The Lexus LF-SA has leaked onto the Internet, thanks to the Folks at Autoblog, and it is apparently nothing like what I thought it was. Many folks, myself included, assumed this was a Lexus’d-up version of the Toyota Yaris, which would have been a travesty. Instead, we have a compact crossover that looks to preview a future model to battle the likes of the Mercedes GLA or the Audi Q1.

While I am not a huge fan of more crossovers, this is far better than a prettied-up Yaris. Additionally, this shows that the brand is prepared to jump into every class of vehicles to give buyers alternatives to the German trio of Mercedes, Audi, and BMW.

The details around the LF-SA are still under wraps, but the images tell us pretty much all we need to know. The design is clearly an evolution of the Lexus look of today, with its spindle grille, hard body lines, and vertical intakes on the front bumper. Around back, things get a little i8-ish, but that can slide for now, as this is still just a concept.

Inside the cabin, things are expectedly futuristic and not production ready. However, this is likely a preview of a vehicle that could be five, or more, years away, so this could be the Lexus cabin of tomorrow.

Under the hood, things are also a mystery. However, there are no exhaust pipes, so chances are that this is actually an EV concept. In production, a compact EV crossover would likely be a hot seller, so Lexus may have a gold mine on its hands in the LF-SA. Stay tuned for its official debut at the Geneva Auto Show on March 3, 2015.
