Lexus Shows its New Design Language Through New LF-FC Flagship Concept
Lexus is working toward pushing itself to a new level of luxury and distancing itself from Toyota, its parent company. Part of this movement is creating new luxury cars that look and drive like their own instead of like warmed-over Toyotas. The latest addition to this attempt at independence is the LF-FC Flagship Concept the automaker introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show.
The LF-FC takes Lexus’ L-finesse design language and adds a new, modernized twist. Up front, you’ll find an enhanced version of the Lexus spindle grille with a mesh insert, the staple L-shaped daytime running lights, and striking headlights. Around back, the floating taillights add some shape to an otherwise simple tail. The profile view shows a four-door coupe design and a set of carbon-fiber-reinforced-plastic wheels measuring 21 inches.
Simply put, this stunning concept oozes style from every nook and cranny.
The doors open up to reveal a massive interior that is super-modern and certainly not production ready. The thin front seats and reclining rear seats are wrapped up in aniline leather, as are the doors and dashboard. The revised human machine interface operates by way of hand gestures instead of touchscreens or knobs.
Under its hood, the LF-FC features a fuel-cell powertrain that delivers power to all four wheels by way of three electric motors – one motor powering the rear wheels and two in-wheel motors up front. This all-wheel-drive setup helps with agility, while the rear-biased weight distribution gives the 208.7-inch luxury rig a sportier feel.
Lexus revealed no plans to roll out a production version of the LF-FC, but Lexus doesn’t often create concepts without a plan to put them in production. We’ll keep an eye on this concept and bring you updates as they become available.
