The LA Auto Show is drawing near, and many automakers are in full-tease mode. The latest to reveal a shadowy teaser image is Lexus, as it gets us ready for the reveal of the LF-C2 concept. Lexus is no stranger to “LF” concepts, as it has already revealed the LF-NX and the LF-LC. The former was the concept version of the NX, while the latter donated some styling cues to the the RC Coupe, which was previewed by the LF-CC concept, so chances are this concept is a preview to another model that we’ll see very soon.
The shadowy image and the press release both reveal that the LF-C2 will be an open-top coupe. And this fits perfectly in Lexus’ plans, as the RC is ripe for a drop-top model. Additionally, if you put this image next to the LF-LC concept, the body lines are rather similar, leading me to assume that this will essentially a convertible version of the LF-LC. My logic then says that this will eventually spawn a convertible version of the RC, which will take the place of the aging IS Convertible.
This is all still wild speculation, as Lexus has not confirmed anything, but the similarities are too striking to pass up, and the need to replace the IS Convertible is obvious.
We will learn all of the official details soon enough, as the LF-C2 is set to debut on November 19, 2014 at 1:40 p.m. PST. Lexus will also start the reveal process 72 hours before the LA Auto Show starts at http://lexus-int.com/motorshow/72-hour-eclipse-reveal.html.
We’ll bring you all of the updates as they become available, so keep it locked here.
