Lexus Announces New NX Crossover

After receiving positive feedback from its LF-NX Concept at the Tokyo and Frankfurt Motor Shows, Lexus has gone ahead and taken the concept vehicle to production form, calling the new model the NX. The all-new crossover will make its first public appearance at the Beijing International Auto Show in April.

With the Lexus GX model line gone, the luxury automaker has been looking to fill its lineup with more crossover vehicles. The NX will be slotted in the lineup just below the RX, and it will be the first compact crossover to wear the Lexus badge. The competition in the luxury compact crossover market segment is heating up as a growing number of consumers are buying models that are already available in the market. Market analysts expect it to be one of the faster-growing segments of the automotive market in the next several years.

Lexus says the official unveiling of the NX will take place on April 20, 2014 at a press conference during the Beijing international Auto Show. China has quickly become a powerful force in the international automotive market as increasing amount of the country’s large population has the ability to purchase vehicles. As incomes continue to rise in China, so has the demand for luxury models. Lexus and other luxury lines have made large inroads into the country’s automotive market, often seeing double or triple-digit sales growth in a short period of time. The Lexus NX is slated to be sold elsewhere, including in the United States automotive market.
