Lamborghini Urus Concept Gets Upgrades for New Racing Series

Well, if you weren’t weirded out enough by the fact Lamborghini now has a crossover, this latest concept should get your supercar senses tingling. The Raging Bull brand has revealed a new Urus ST-X concept that’s primed for racing. Yes, a racing Lamborghini… SUV.

OK, before you freak out, there is actually a purpose for the Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept. There are plans in place to launch a new single-brand championship racing series in 2020 that will combine off- and on-road circuits, and Lambo intends this rig to compete in that.

The Urus ST-X is very similar to the standard model, but it boasts a few upgrades to get it race ready. It all starts with the FIA-required racing gadgets, including a steel roll cage, a fire-suppression system, and an FT3 fuel tank.

With the FIA bits out of the way, the good stuff can happen. This starts with a matte Verde Mantis livery, visible-carbon-fiber hood, larger air intakes, a rear wing, lateral racing exhaust, and 21-inch single-nut aluminum-alloy wheels. Under its hood, the Urus ST-X Concept’s twin-turbo V-8 engine cranks out the same 650 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque as the base model, but this racing SUV is 25 percent lighter, boosting its power-to-weight ratio.

The Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept will make its on-track debut at the 2019 Lamborghini World Finals.
