Hyundai Plans Small SUV in Big SUV Market
Thanks to its car-heavy vehicle lineup, Hyundai has really suffered as consumers have favored SUVs. So, it makes sense the Korean automaker is switching to a new crossover that will slot below the new Kona. The only problem is what shoppers want is big SUVs, not something tiny.
Of course, Hyundai won’t say much about this “baby” crossover. But, the chief of the Hyundai Global Design Center did tell MotorTrend to expect something boxier, probably to make it look good against the Jeep Renegade.
The rumor is we’ll see the new Hyundai SUV debut at this year’s New York Auto Show, which is in April. Hyundai will also take the wraps off an all-new Sonata, but cars are dog meat now, so expect the spotlight to shine brightly on this little crossover.
Instead of using the Kona and its funky design as a template, Hyundai is rumored to have stuck with a more traditional aesthetic for this new vehicle. But yes, it’ll be even smaller than the Kona, which is pretty small. Apparently, Hyundai didn’t get the memo that Americans are really big on three-row crossovers, even if they only need five seats.
