Cadillac Super Cruise Due for Overhaul
Taking a page out of Tesla’s playbook, Cadillac has decided to upgrade Super Cruise using over-the-air updates. That means your Caddy will drive better after you sleep at night, similar to how your smartphone does the same thing. Tesla drivers already know the joys of not having to visit a service center because software updates are needed.
This big upgrade won’t happen for older Cadillacs, so you’ll still have to visit the dealership periodically if you own a 2019 or older model. Starting with the 2020 CT6, Cadillacs will improve how they drive autonomously all the time.
Of course, Cadillac isn’t saying exactly what about Super Cruise will improve starting with the new crop of cars. With updates to Tesla’s Autopilot recently dropping, plus other competitors like Audi Traffic Jam Pilot surpassing Super Cruise, Cadillac absolutely needs the ability to push out updates as early as possible if it wants to keep up.
Tesla Autopilot can now make lane changes as needed, something Super Cruise cannot do. That could be one of the coming updates.
Currently, you can only get Super Cruise with the Cadillac CT6, but that will change. The CT5 will gain the tech, with other Cadillacs following.
