Hyundai HyperEconiq Ioniq Shows SEMA Cars Can be All About Efficiency too

Typically, when we talk about SEMA show cars, we’re typically talking about massive horsepower or incredible off-road capabilities. Hyundai and Bismoto look to break that mold, as they just previewed one of their SEMA cars, and it’s a careful balance of fuel economy and performance.

Meet the SEMA-bound Hyundai HyperEconiq Ioniq. This custom rig takes all that is great about Hyundai’s green machine and turns it up a few notches on the eco and performance side.

On the performance side of things, the HyperEconiq Ioniq features a Bisimoto pulse-chamber exhaust system, Recaro Pole Position racing seats, Carbon Revolution 19″ x 5.0″ CR-9 one-piece carbon-fiber wheels, a Bisimoto Dream Aero kit that includes a front splitter, TA wing, side splitters and rear wheel covers, a Progress Performance coilover suspension, and optimized inertial supercharging during valvetrain overlap.

On the economy side, there is Bespoke eco low-friction PurOl Elite synthetic oil, low-rolling-resistance tires, Buddy Club aluminum brake calipers, enhanced e-generators, and NGK spark plugs.

Other mods include Racepak OBD-monitoring electronics with interactive OBD cluster and ARP wheel studs.

According to Bismoto tests, this HyperEconiq Ioniq will deliver well over 80 mpg.

We’ll learn more about this thrifty custom car once the 2017 SEMA show opens its doors to the media on Oct. 27.
