Watching Teslas beat internal combustion vehicles on drag strips has become a kind of obsession for some people. Pretty much all of them have been of the Model S and Model X, but we finally have the Model 3 throwing down against a Ford Mustang EcoBoost on the 1/8 mile.
Predictably, the electric car wins this face-off, although it’s closer than you might think. Tesla fanboys are making a big deal about this victory against an American “muscle car.” I think most enthusiasts, even rapid Ford fans, would agree that an EcoBoost does not constitute muscle by any stretch of the imagination.
You can go on about what constitutes a fair race here. Had it been a Mustang GT instead, the Tesla would’ve been spanked by a lot. Is that fair to put it against a V-8-powered muscle car that can do 0-60 in under 4 seconds?
