Cadillac is steadily trying to claw itself back to being one of the best in the luxury-car biz. While it’s made strides recently, likely its biggest step just happened recently with the unveiling of a new German-killing V-8.
Meet Cadillac’s first-ever twin-turbo V-8. BMW has one and Mercedes has one, so it only made sense for cadillac to get one — too bad it’s about 10 years too late. But I digress.
This new 4.2-liter twin-turbo V-8 will grace the engine compartment of the CT6 V-Sport and inject a healthy 550 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque into its flagship sedan. This 4.2-liter V-8 will boast 20 psi of boose, a pair of twin-scroll turbochargers, an electronic wastegate, two water-to-air intercoolers, direct injection, cylinder deactivation, stop-start technology, and more.
There is no mention of when this hand-built V-8 and the CT6 V-Sport is powers will hit showrooms, but that should come soon.
The question this engine, which will be built alongside the Corvette in Bowling Green, leaves in all of our minds is, “is this a preview of the mid-engine Corvette’s engine?” Of course, the mid-engine `Vette will have more than 550 horsepower, GM could likely easily wring another 15 horses out of it.
