10 of the Best 2014 European Cars in the U.S.
7. Volkswagen GTI
The original hot hatch is still around, and many would argue it’s better than ever. The interior of the GTI is easily the nicest in the performance hatchback market segment, with many elements looking more like something that belongs inside a luxury model. The car still handles like a champion on the road, allowing drivers to whip through turns and carve up canyon roads with blissful ease. Even with its tight handling, the suspension provides a pretty comfortable ride, unlike some rival hatchbacks. The engine provides some thrilling acceleration, and while the GTI is admittedly not the fastest hot hatch on the market today, it is the most practical one to use on your daily commute. That’s not to say that owners cannot throw the car around on the track once the weekend rolls around, because the GTI is still a well-rounded performer that displays much more sophistication than its newest competitors.
