VW is looking to take the United States automotive market by storm, with the Jetta and Passat leading the charge. Fortunately for Americans, that Passat is a great choice for an upscale midsize sedan. The Passat sold in the United States offers much more room because it is longer and wider than what European consumers get to own. The sedan comes in three varieties that range from the S for the sensible shoe crowd, all the way to the SEL Premium that heaps on the luxuries with leather upholstery, navigation, and driver memory settings. A new, more powerful and more efficient 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is available, which provides a surprising amount of power. For those who crave performance, the 3.6-liter VR6 engine is also available on SE and SEL models. There is also a turbo-diesel engine available for anyone who wants to achieve the greatest fuel savings possible.
