Mercedes-AMG Bids the V12 Farewell

If you love Mercedes’ V-12 engines, the new Mercedes-AMG S65 Final Edition could be the last chance you have of purchasing one new. It’s truly the end of an era for the automotive legend, plus a sign of the times.

Each one of the Final Edition models will come with black paint, black and bronze exterior trim pieces, side skirts, a rear diffuser, gloss black exhaust finishers, bronze wheels, a black interior, carbon-fiber accent trim, and copper accent stitching. That sophisticated aggression suits the 6.0-liter V-12 bi-turbo engine perfectly. With 630 horsepower on tap and rear-wheel drive, this is the kind of car drivers enjoy, despite also being created with passenger comfort front-and-center.

Mercedes-AMG went all-out as far as standard equipment for the S65 Final Edition. The car comes with the Magic Sky Control panoramic roof, the First Class rear suite that includes an extended-length console and temperature-controlled cup holders, plus the Executive front passenger seat. A tailor-made AMG-branded indoor car cover is also included. Considering only 130 of these will be made, you’re not going to want the kids to be eating muffins and spilling sticky soda in the backseat.

Officially, Mercedes hasn’t said it won’t make any more cars with a V-12, but we can all read the writing on the wall. It’s only a matter of time before the S-Class is completely electrified or dead.
