Infiniti Reveals the Updated 2016 QX60
Infiniti has long been locked in a battle with the other Japanese luxury brands – Acura and Lexus – in an attempt to grab whatever sales it can from BMW and Mercedes defectors. So far, Infiniti hasn’t been overly successful in this, but it is steadily working toward becoming a more desirable brand by releasing new and enhanced models in recent years, like the brand-new, 400-horsepower Q50 Red Sport 400. Today, we get a look at a slightly less cool model in the 2016 QX60, but it does get a nice restyle and a few other tweaks.
The 2016 QX60 rolls in with a nice refresh to its front end that gives the crossover a much cleaner look than before. While the body retains the typical swoopiness Infinitis are known for, the front end gets a new double-arch grille that doesn’t bulge nearly as much as last year’s model, thinner and widener headlights with new graphics, enhanced LED lighting, and new fog lights with chrome finishers.
Around back, the QX60 features new taillights and a new chrome finisher on the hatch.
Inside, the QX60 only has a few very minor updates. These include a new soft-touch upper dash with contrast stitching, a new-look gear shifter and surround, and a revised microfilter in the climate control system.
Other than its new, sportier look, the QX60’s other big change is to its chassis. Infiniti engineers replaced the dampers and springs all around, giving the crossover a smoother ride while reducing body roll. Also new is a revised speed-sensitive steering system that requires just 2.9 turns to go from lock to lock.
The 2016 QX60 will come in two states of tune. The base model features the same 3.5-liter V-6 as the 2015 model, giving it 265 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. Also carrying over is the QX60 Hybrid, which uses a 2.5-liter supercharged four-pot that produces 250 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. A new additions for 2016 are the electric-active controlled liquid-filled engine mounts.
The 2016 QX60 will hit showrooms in the spring of 2016, and pricing will be revealed closer to its release date.
