Elon Musk is Talking a Tesla Pickup Again

Elon Musk is like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to dreaming up new ideas. The Tesla pickup truck, which could be named the Model W for “werking,” is one topic he keeps revisiting. Some people started to think with the issues surrounding the Model 3, the company is preparing to launch a semi and planning to ramp up Model Y production, but the pickup project wasn’t getting any attention. Thanks to Twitter, that trove of well-baked ideas, we know Musk is still very much mulling over a consumer truck.

One crazy idea Musk has is to slap a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup on the pickup for “crazy torque.” I can see a commercial with a Tesla Model W pulling a stump out of a high-end neighborhood in the Silicon Valley. A dynamically adjustable suspension would be standard, something you have to pay to have on other pickups.

Musk also thinks onboard power outlets to accommodate “high power tools” is a great idea. There are pickups with power outlets so you can run a table saw or whatever, but apparently those are for “low power tools.”

One of the most important ideas is that the driver’s seat is larger than the others. As Musk said, the pickup won’t be “dainty” and so it needs to accommodate Andre the Giant (yes, he actually said that, I kid you not). That’s good, because those seats in trucks like the Ram 3500 are so small, I can’t even get comfortable in them.
