Jaguar’s New Ingenium Straight-Six to Deliver up to 500 Ponies
Modular engines, once the butt of jokes, are becoming more popular than ever as automakers do whatever they can to keep production costs down. Today, Car Magazine reports that Jaguar Land Rover will launch a new line of modular Ingenium engines based on its 2.0-liter four-cylinder powerplant.
Each of these modular engines will reportedly be a 3.0-liter six-cylinder, and like many modular engines, there will be multiple versions, including diesel and gasoline versions, and varying levels of tune. The report claims that the diesel engines will have three stages that produce 275, 335, and 400 horsepower while the Car says the gasoline powerplants will produce 300, 400, and a mighty 500 horsepower.
These engines will not only inject some much-needed power into Jag and Land Rover vehicles while keeping costs in check, but they will also reduce weight and cut emissions, according to the report. Looks for these engines to spread quickly across the two automakers’ lineups and grace the engine compartments of the XE, XF, F-Pace and XJ on the Jaguar side, and the Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport and the Discovery in Land Rover’s division.
Look for These brands to make the straight-six switch in late-2017. While Europe will likely see all six engines in both lineups, the U.S. will likely see only one or two—if any—of the diesels.
Stay tuned for more details.
