Volvo Reveals the Fully Loaded XC90 First Edition
With the unexpectedly early release of the all-new 2016 XC90, Volvo also released a special-edition version of the new SUV that it has dubbed the First Edition. The XC90 First Edition will be limited to only 1,927 units, which pays tribute to the year the company was founded. The odd twist to this special edition is that it will only be available via online ordering at volvocars.com/us starting on September 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. ET. You, of course, cannot buy the car online — there are laws in America forbidding that — but it will be a system to reserve one.
The 2016 XC90 First Edition will be packed to the gills with all the automaker has to offer, including its new, 2.0-liter supercharged and turbocharged engine that produces 316 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, This powerplant will mate to an eight-speed auto transmission that will deliver power to all four wheels.
On top of the powerful and efficient four-cylinder, buyers will also get uniquely numbered tread plates, distinct badging, a leather key fob with the First Edition logo, and four-corner air suspension with Four-C customizable dampers. The list of features goes on to include a Onyx Black paint job, eight-spoke 21-inch wheels, Amber nappa leather seating, a Charcoal leather dashboard with linear walnut inlays, power, heated and cooled front seats, heated second-row seats, power third-row seats, a tablet-like touchscreen, and a 19-speaker audio system with 1,400 watts and an air-vented subwoofer.
Despite all of these premium features, the 2016 XC90 T6 AWD First Edition is relatively inexpensive, as it bases out at $65,900. You had better act fast if you want one, as special editions like this that are available via online ordering typically sell out just hours after they are released.
