The Mercedes-AMG GT R Struts its Stuff on the Nürburgring

The Mercedes-AMG is cool and all, but that’s old news. The newest of the new is not even here yet, but it’s been spied a few times. I am, of course, referring to the R version of the aforementioned sports car. This time around, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is getting a beating on its home turf at the Nürburgring and you can see it in the video below.

The human lucky enough to be piloting this fast rig definitely doesn’t seem to be holding anything back, but the GT R almost laughs as its taught chassis shows zero give and slingshots the rig around the corners. With a neutral exit from the twisties, the driver simply mashes the accelerator, letting the engine hit the high notes. Clearly, this is just another day at the office for this test driver.

The specifics behind the AMG GT R are still under wraps, but 600 horsepower is very much a possibility. In fact, Mercedes-AMG boss, Tobias Moers, told Top Gear that the 4.0-liter twin-turbo is “unstressed” in its current tune. Therefore, given the GT S already milks 503 ponies from its engine, that 600-pony mark seems quite realistic.

For now, this is all just educated speculation, but we’ll keep an eye out for more details.
