The XV Crosstrek harks back to the roots of Subaru, which at one point was known for manufacturing quirky yet useful vehicles, like the old Legacy wagon, the Legacy Outback sedan and the XT. In more recent years, however, Subaru has put more focus on form and pushed some of its enthusiasts away. This is not to say Subaru lost its way, but it has started focusing more on mainstream buyers. The XV Crosstrek, on the other hand, is just as quirky and useful as they come, and well deserving of the new limited-run Special Edition model the automaker just revealed.

The XV Crosstrek Special Edition starts life as a 2.0i Premium trim level, which graces it with all sorts of high-end features like a STARLINK multimedia system, a seven-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker audio system, voice-activated controls, push-button start, keyless access, a leather-wrapped shifter and steering wheel, and more. The Special Edition model pushes things a little further with a standard power moonroof, body-color folding mirrors with integrated turn signals, roof rails,  a body-color spoiler, and unique 17-inch wheels. All of the extra features are great, but by far the most outwardly noticeable feature of the new Special Edition model its is exclusive Sunrise Yellow body color. This color also contrasts very well with the XV’s body cladding and the exclusive blackened headlight bezels.

Under its hood, the XV Crosstrek Special Edition retains the standard 2.0-liter Boxer-Four engine that delivers 148 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque to all four wheels. It also retains the continuously variable transmission with a six-speed manual mode and Subaru Incline Start Assist.

The 2015 XV Crosstrek Special Edition will make its way to dealers in the spring of 2015 at a starting price of $25,290, which makes it $2,995 more than the 2.0i Premium model it is based upon. If you want to snag up a 2015 XV Crosstrek Special Edition, you’ll need to act fast because it’s limited to only 1,000 units.
