Nissan Pays Tribute to Original 240Z
It’s the 50th anniversary since the Datsun 240Z hit the streets in the United States, and that means celebration time. Instead of launching a new Z car, Nissan decided to release the 2020 370Z 50th Anniversary Edition, squeezing even more life out of the aging platform.
As you can clearly see, this new special edition of the Nissan 370Z wears some throwback racing livery. It’s an homage to the original #46 BRE Datsun 240Z that racked up quite a few victories in the SCCA National Championships. You can get the livery in either white with red accents or silver with black accents.
There are some interior styling changes as well, like an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and a special logo embroidered on the backrests.
You can only get this special livery on just the 370Z Sport. Nissan says this is because out of the entire 2020 model lineup, the Sport “represents the true enthusiast spirit of the original model.”
There’s seems to be a growing dissatisfaction with Japanese automakers not respecting their own legendary sportscars. Toyota created what some regard as a BMW abomination for the new Supra, Honda has just sat on the S200’s grave like its no big deal, and Nissan continues to neglect its Z line. Will people line up for this anniversary version of the 370Z, or will it later be remembered as just one more misstep by Nissan?
