Your Gas is About to Get More Corn

It seems like it’s that time of the year when the EPA thinks about diluting your gas again. Yep, the dreaded “winter mix” gas everyone loves, otherwise known as E15 or other words I can’t actually publish, could soon become “year-round mix.” Try not to shout too much out of sheer joy.

The EPA posted its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on its website recently. I’ll save you from plowing through the document yourself. Basically, it would mean E15 can be sold from June 1 to Sept. 1. That’s the last refuge drivers have enjoyed from the stuff.

This is all from a directive given by President Trump, who nobly wants to help corn farmers by punishing the rest of us. To be fair, allowing E15 all year could help lower gas prices, because they’ve recently shot up like a rocket.

Oh, but dumping more ethanol into gas usually means worse fuel economy and poor performance. Yeah, it’s a win-win.

Sadly, this plan has been brewing since last year. The fight over ethanol has been going on for years. Perhaps this is another reason to consider going all-electric?
