Mercedes Won’t Kill the V-12
For a while there it looked like V-12 and V-10 engines pretty much everywhere in the world would become a thing of the past. In fact, the Mercedes-AMG S65 Final Edition was supposed to be the last hurrah for the V-12 in Mercedes’ lineup. But now that seems to be changing.
Daimler CEO Ola Kallenius revealed that the next-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class, which launches in 2021, will be packing a V-12 in the lineup. That’s great news for lovers of the ostentatious engine layout and the incredibly smooth power delivery.
For now we don’t get any details about how the V-12 will be used. So you can speculate like crazy that it might be paired with an electric motor or two for a hybrid powertrain or have four turbochargers slapped on. Official details are coming sometime next year, probably in the fourth quarter, so we have a lot of time to wait.
Surely all kinds of speculation will start swirling now. It doesn’t really matter, because we know the V-12 isn’t going anywhere, at least for now.
