Mercedes-Benz Rolls Out the GLB for Production
Based much on the compact A-Class, the all-new production version of the Mercedes-Benz GLB has been revealed. While not being a hulking behemoth of an SUV, buyers will be able to get it with three rows and enough space for seven passengers.
As you’ve probably already noticed, Mercedes-Benz isn’t really hurting for SUV models, so why does the GLB even exist? While you can do some light off-roading with most of the brand’s SUV lineup, the GLB is supposed to be more like a baby G-Wagen. That compact platform helps shorten overhangs and keep the breakover angle more optimal. That means this vehicle has been designed for a more active lifestyle, even though the increased trail capabilities will probably be used to park on snow drifts in the mall parking lot during the winter, along with the Jeep Wranglers.
Also helping with trail capabilities is the permanent 4Matic all-wheel drive. Sadly, this will limit the GLB’s rock crawling qualities since it’s not beefy like the four-wheel drive included on the G-Wagen, so don’t think this SUV will be quite as hardcore.
Just like any Mercedes model, the GLB comes with all kids of goodies. Beyond just things like leather upholstery, seat heaters, and wood inlays, this SUV also includes the Energizing Coach. It links up with a compatible smartwatch or other wearable wristband, monitoring your stress level and quality of sleep and changing factors like lighting, music, and seat massaging functions accordingly.
