The S-Class received a full redesign in 2014, and in 2015, the CL-Class Coupe became the new S-Class Coupe. With this rearranging of Mercedes’ lineup, we knew a convertible S-Class was in the works. Today, this becomes a reality, as the automaker revealed the Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet.

This new model arrives with all the cues that we’ve come to expect from the sexy S-Class Coupe, but with one key change: the addition of a retractable fabric top available in black, dark blue, beige, or dark red. This multi-layer top helps keep sound and elements where they belong, outside. This power top can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph) and takes just 17 seconds to open or close.

Being an AMG model, the S65 Cabriolet makes itself known with an aggressive exterior design. Here, you’ll find a large front splitter, side flics, large air inlets, a stylish rear diffuser, and chrome-plated exhaust tips. This all-business body also has added torsional rigidity to help it out in the twist, thanks to the use of magnesium and aluminum, and the rigid bulkhead behind the rear seats.

As with all Mercedes-AMG creations, the S65 Cabriolet’s interior is nothing short of incredible. It perfectly combines sportiness and luxury by way of sport seats in exclusive nappa leather, diamond-patterned upholstery, creative stitching, and a DINAMICA headliner. Further enhancing the comfort inside the S65 Cabriolet is the AIRCAP automatic wind-protection system, the AIRSCARF neck-level heating system, heated armrests, and intelligent climate control.

Powering the new S65 Cabriolet is a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V-12 that cranks out 630 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. All this oomph routes through a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS transmission that ships it to the rear wheels. The driver can choose from three shift modes to match the conditions: controlled efficiency, sport, and manual. This powertrain results in a 4.1-second 0-to-100 km/h (62 mph) time.

Handling the corners is the responsibility of a sport suspension system that is based on Mercedes’ signature AIRMATIC system. This variable-damping system allows the S65 Cabriolet have all the firmness it needs in the corners without all the jarring when just cruising. An optional ceramic high-performance composite brake system can help increase the agility of this fast drop-top.

This new addition to the Mercedes lineup will hit dealers in the U.K. in the summer of 2016, and buyers can start ordering it on April 4th, 2016. Its U.S. availability remains unknown for now.
