Lincoln Drops The Hammer With 2017 MKZ Refresh
Usually mid-cycle updates introduce a revised front fascia, accent stitching to the interior or maybe even an improved infotainment system. Lincoln, a brand that has been all but dead for far too long, has dropped the hammer big time with the 2017 MKZ. Instead of staying the course with oatmeal-flavored offerings, the brand is offering a 400 horsepower version of the MKZ.
Yes, you read that right, 400 horsepower.
It comes via a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine, which is an upgraded version of the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6. For those who care about twisting force, which should be all enthusiasts, the new setup also puts out 300 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s paired with all-wheel drive. Buyers who choose front-wheel drive get a detuned version of the engine, which only puts out 350 horsepower (yeah, only).
True enthusiasts can add to the 2017 Lincoln MKZ all-wheel-drive version with an optional Driver’s Pack. It includes a torque-vectoring rear differential, which might sound familiar because it’s also featured on the wondrous and soon-approaching Focus RS. That would give the MKZ a rear-wheel-drive bias, plus the practicality of all-wheel drive, which will undoubtedly will make it a complete blast to drive.
This is the most powerful Lincoln vehicle ever created, showing that Ford might actually be serious about mixing things up and revamping the badge engineering atrocity that has become its luxury line.
Oh, and Lincoln is also incorporating some of the kinds of mid-cycle refresh updates you’d normally expect. The exterior look is greatly improved with a new signature front grille inspired by the one on the Continental Concept that wowed everyone at the New York Auto Show. The rear bumper is slightly revised, making the sedan appear wider.
Buyers will be able to add adaptive LED headlights, making it much easier to see on dark roadways at night. When owners unlock the car in the dark, the Lincoln logo is projected on the ground to create what the brand is calling a “welcome mat.”
