Lamborghini Shows Off the Centenario in Geneva
Earlier last month, a few patent images of the upcoming Lamborghini Centenario—a model that celebrates the 100th birthday of the brand’s founder. Today, the supercar manufacturer has released the official details of the limited-run supercar, proving that the leaked images were accurate but failed to do this car the justice it deserves.
“Wow” is about the only word that comes to mind when looking at the Centenario, as it is clearly based on the Aventador, but the automaker tossed every bit of aero work it could think of at its flagship supercar in creating this model. The entire underside of the car features exclusive aero bits that include a front splitter, flics just forward of each wheel, an insane rear diffuser, and a deployable rear spoiler.
Keeping things light was a huge part of creating this limited-run supercar. Lamborghini achieved this by crafting the entire body from carbon fiber. What’s more, even its monocoque is crafted of the lightweight material, giving additional torsional rigidity. This results in a dry weight of just 1,520 kg (3,351 pounds)—55 kg (121.3 pounds) less than the Aventador LP700-4.
Airflow was clearly key in developing this model as Lambo added exclusive nostril vents to the front end, and vents in the headlights and around the wheel arches. These vents all flow to the radiator that helps keep the snarling 770 PS (745-horsepower) V-12 engine at ideal temperature. This is especially necessary with the rev limiter on this V-12, which it shares with the Aventador, being raised from 8,350 rpm to 8,600 revs.
This fire-breathing V-12 delivers a 0-to-62 mph time of 2.8 seconds, a 0-to-186 mph time of 23.5 seconds, and a top speed in excess of 217 mph.
Inside, the Centenario is just as crazy as one may expect. Carbon-fiber sport seats are standard, as is contrast stitching across the dash and on the steering wheel, carbon-fiber and Alcantara door inserts, satellite navigation, a 10.1-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay.
As expected, the Centenario will be super-limited and outrageously expensive. Lamborghini will limit it to just 20 coupes and 20 roadsters priced from €1.75 million ($1.9 million). If you happen to have that much scratch in your piggy bank, you are still out of luck, as all 40 are already sold.
