Get Ready For The 600 Horsepower Volvos
Volvo’s changed, but it still has some misconceptions to overcome. One of the biggest right now is that the Swedes can’t make a vehicle crafted for some serious speed. People are about to be shocked, because there might be some 600-horsepower Volvos on the horizon, which could give AMGs and M cars a serious run for their money.
Polestar, Volvo’s performance division, is digging into the new S90 and V90. While it was able to boost the XC90 a little, it sounds like there are more ambitious goals for the sedan and wagon. Motor Trend says that Polestar is giving serious thought to pushing output to as much as 600 horsepower. Polestar could stop short at 500 horsepower, which still would be a blast. We’ll see.
What mighty V-8 engine will Polestar be dropping into the S90 and V90 for that kind of earth-shattering power? None. Instead, the company is staying green by pushing the T8 hybrid powertrain to new heights, four-cylinder engine and all.
Are you not impressed yet?
Forget being wowed by German engineering, because it sounds like the Swedes are about to glove slap their Teutonic rivals hard. It’s about time Polestar is let off the leash.
