This certainly won’t help with the ongoing feud between Mustang and Camaro performance enthusiasts: Ford announced at the 2014 New York International Auto Show that it will release a line of nail polish that are inspired by the 2015 Mustang. Camaro drivers already claim that the Mustang is a girls’ car, and this move only adds credibility to that claim.
Of course, the nail polish gimmick is designed to draw more women to the new generation of the Mustang, which already promises to be easier to handle thanks to a new independent rear suspension. The nail polish line might also work to draw in a few hipster men, which will likely be an unintentional and happy effect Ford has not yet considered.
Ford had a team of nail technicians working at its booth at the show in New York. Reportedly there were more than just women lining up for a free manicure. OPI Collection, the supplier tapped to produce the Mustang-inspired nail polishes, says that only the Race Red color provides an exact match to the actual vehicle paint colors. Remember this if you are looking to touch up any scratches or dings.
Apparently, the other five colors in the line are only inspired by the attitude and experience of driving the new Mustang. OPI says that the other paint colors from the 2015 Mustang do not look very good on nails. Instead, women can purchase colors with names like Queen of the Road (black) and Sky’s My Limit (turquoise blue).
Anyone interested in buying the limited edition nail polish, either for themselves or someone they know, will need to wait until July of 2014.
