2016 Dodge Challenger & Charger in Plumb Crazy Purple

Nearly any car enthusiast can tell you why Plumb Crazy Purple is such an iconic color. Its roots go all the way back to 1970, when muscle cars were at their peak just before the emissions squeeze and oil shortage. This unique hue made its return in 2007 as an option on the Charger SRT8, and we last saw it in 2014 as an option on the Charger R/T and SRT8, and Challenger R/T, Shaker and SRT8. Today, we’ve learned that Dodge will once again offer this color as an option on its two flagship muscle cars.

The order books for Charger and Challenger models with this exclusive color will open in October 2015, and Dodge will only offer it through the rest of 2015. This will keep the overall to-date production of Plumb Crazy Purple-painted Challengers and Chargers to under 11 percent, which will help retain its collectability.

Before you make plans to go place an order for your very own Plumb Crazy-painted Dodge, you’ll have to keep in mind that this hue will not be available across the entire Charger and Challenger lineups. Instead, the only Challengers that are available in the resurrected color include the SXT Plus, R/T, R/T Plus, R/T Classic, R/T Shaker, R/T Plus Shaker, R/T Scat Pack, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. On the Charger side of the equation, buyers can get this hue in the SXT (with 20-inch wheels only), R/T, R/T Road & Track, R/T Scat Pack, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat.

There is no mention of how much extra this nostalgic color will add to the MSRP of the Charger and Challenger, but you can bet it will be at least an extra $1,000 or $2,000. Given its limited numbers and status as a legendary color, that range would be a steal, but they will go fast, so you’d better be waiting in line when Dodge opens the order books.
