The first retail version of the upcoming 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is already spoken for since it is slated to be auctioned off in support of charity. Chevrolet will place the car on the auction block at Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Florida on April 12.
The money from the car’s sale will go to the Karmanos Cancer Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive care center. Karmanos plans to use the funds to help renovate its infusion center, turning it into a more comfortable and inviting space for patients to receiving chemotherapy treatments. Chevrolet has worked with the Institute for some time, even donating the first retail 2014 Corvette Stingray to raise $1 million via the Barrett-Jackson Auction in 2013.
“Chevrolet’s donation of the first 2015 Corvette Z06 produced is yet another way that we are showing our continued support of the Karmanos Cancer Institute. The funds raised from the auction will help further the exceptional patient care that Karmanos is known for in our community and across the country.” said Dan Ammann, GM President.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is being touted as the most capable Corvette model to date. The car was designed not only with exceptional aerodynamics, but also optimal downforce to assist in high-speed handling. The LT4 6.2-liter small block V8 engine uses a supercharger to produce at least 625 horsepower. The car also promises high levels of efficiency, thanks to the use of lightweight materials like aluminum and carbon fiber, plus technologies like direct fuel injection and continuously variable valve tuning.
