Chevrolet Adding Z71 Package to the Suburban and Tahoe
Chevrolet first offered its off-road package, the Z71, on the Tahoe and Suburban in 2001, but it failed to offer the package when the new 2015 Tahoe and Suburban debuted. Apparently, there was a good bit of clamoring for the package by prospective buyers, as Chevy has released a statement that it will offer the package for its full-size SUVs.
Chevy declined to reveal any information on what the Tahoe and Suburban Z71 will offer, but we can get a good grasp on what to expect by looking at the 2014 Silverado Z71. The Silverado Z71 comes with an off-road-style lower bumper look, a Z71-specific grille and badge, 46-mm monotube Rancho shocks, front tow hooks, a transfer case shield, 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, and Z71-specific interior upgrades.
Chances are that the Tahoe and Suburban Z71 will feature nearly the same add-on items as the Silverado, making these SUVs ready to tackle less-than-ideal conditions. Don’t expect these bulky people haulers to instantly become rock crawlers, but you can certainly expect them to handle light trail duty and maybe crawl over a medium-sized fallen tree in the process.
As for pricing, we can again look to the Silverado. The Z71 package is only available with the Silverado LT and LTZ, and it adds $1,590 and $680 to their respective base prices. These pricing increases should carry over almost unchanged to the Tahoe and Suburban.
Fortunately, we won’t have to wait too long, as Chevy also announced that it will reveal more details in late September 2014, so keep an eye out for all of the juicy details in the near future.
