C8 Chevy Corvette Convertible Reveal Coming Soon
We’ve already seen the Chevy C8 Corvette in all its glory, but now it’s time for the convertible version of the car to make headlines. We’ll see the topless version of the 2020 C8 Corvette on Oct. 2. That’s not far away at all, beating out some estimates of when GM would finally take the wraps off the car.
So far, spy video and photos floating around the internet have been surprisingly anticlimactic. They essentially confirm that the convertible looks pretty much like the hardtop C8 Corvette, sans roof. Shocking. If these camouflaged versions of the car are to be trusted, flying buttresses will offer some structural support for the folding roof, but that’s about it.
No doubt GM has some trickery up its sleeve. After all, if the reveal is simply a C8 with the roof gone, everyone will be disappointed. It might as well have just revealed the convertible at the same time as the hardtop.
That doesn’t mean the aesthetics will be anything wild or crazy, but there has to be something in the wow factor of this car to justify a separate reveal. The most likely scenario is something technologically advanced, like it will detect if bird poop is falling toward the interior, putting the top up quickly to make the save. The convertible supposedly is only slightly heavier than the hardtop, if you’re to believe the rumors, so maybe that’s it.
Stay tuned for the Oct. 2 reveal.
