Brace For More Volvo Polestar Models

While people are going gaga over the new Volvo S90 and waiting to see what the V90 will be like, enthusiasts are asking all of the right questions. It’s nice to know that the new models are safe, comfortable and technologically advanced, but most important is performance.

When it comes to Volvo, performance is Polestar, the racing and tuning arm of the company. Autocar asked the CEO of Volvo if the S90 and V90 will have their own Polestar versions, the answer was “what’s wrong with a little performance?”

Instead of just churning out safe, boring vehicles, Volvo’s leadership gets that adding some excitement is key. People are emotionally connected to their car, and Polestar is the key to convincing enthusiasts that the Swedes really have turned over a new leaf.

This move makes sense, considering that all of the sedans the S90 will go up against in the market have performance versions. Modifying the S90 just makes sense and is necessary to show that Volvo can play with the big boys.

A Polestar version of the S90 and V90 would probably use the hybrid powertrain, which churns out 407 horsepower. Just how much the modified version would kick out is anyone’s guess, but it should be enough to turn some heads.

This is great news, because owning a Polestar version of the S90 means you could take quite a few people by surprise. After all, how many BMW or Mercedes drivers would even suspect a Volvo could give them a run for their money?

While Volvo’s at it, the company might as well create a Polestar version of the XC90 – an idea that’s been thrown around a little. Some might balk at a performance-oriented three-row vehicle, but just remember that there’s already an AMG version of the Mercedes GL. After all, parents sometimes need to get Timmy to soccer practice in a hurry, so why not?

When the new crop of Volvo’s compact vehicles arrive, expect that Polestar versions of those will come about as well. A Volvo S40 Polestar should be a blast to drive.
