Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing are Working on Something Fast and Street Legal

A little while back, Aston Martin announced that it would work closely with Red Bull Racing to develop something special. Today, we get the first peek at the amazing hypercar that these two companies are working on.

Dubbed the AM-RB 001 Hypercar, this is clearly a track-only design adapted for road use as the short hood, bulging fenders, aero work, and sleek roofline are what we’d expect to see from a Le Mans racer. I think it’s safe to assume that there will be some mild tweaks before it hits final production, but the two companies seem confident that this is close to the final look of this machine.

Matching the radical looks, the 001 Hypercar will boast a bespoke, naturally aspirated V-12 powerplant placed midship, and lightweight construction that’ll allow for a weight ratio of 1 brake horsepower per kilogram. The latter will be aided by a carbon-fiber structure, which will also enhance its rigidity.

While there are no additional details surrounding the powerplant that’ll motivate this rig, the two companies did mention that the 001 Hypercar will feature an advanced suspension that’ll deliver great cornering while still maintaining some comfort for longer hauls.

Shifting duties will be handled by a clean-sheet transmission that the two companies are developing from the ground up.

As for production numbers, there will be 99 to 150 road-going versions of this hypercar created and 25 track-only models. Aston and Red Bull Racing plan to have the 001 Hypercar in production in 2018.
