10 of the Most Tough SUV’s for 2014
10. Nissan Xterra
While the Pathfinder has become soft, even bloated by some people’s standards, the Xterra has remained a real SUV that can play in the dirt and mud without any serious drawbacks. When it comes to driving it on roads, the Xterra is like a sledgehammer. What it lacks in sophistication it makes up for with a highly utilitarian design. You can wipe the interior down after trudging through mud and slinging filthy gear in the cargo area, plus there are plenty of storage areas to stow away equipment and tie downs to keep everything from going flying when the truck hits a large rock. Nissan designed the SUV with a meaty suspension that can be punishing but effective. Beware that you won’t be getting a luxurious interior, but instead will be surrounded by plenty of cheap, hard plastics. If you’re using the Xterra for its intended purpose, you’ll barely notice the interior.
