F-150 Becomes the First-Ever Pursuit-Rated Pickup

One thing you rarely see in police pursuits are pickup trucks. Sure, some police officers drive pickups on-duty, but they are not pursuit-rated. Well, Ford is breaking this mold with the all-new 2018 F-150 Police Responder.

Based on the F-150 FX4 off-road-ready model. This pursuit rig is primed for chasing down bad guys on and off road. It comes with the re-tuned 3.5-liter turbocharged V-6 that cranks out 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque, which is more power than any police pursuit vehicle.

Thanks to its Super Cab body, this pickup can fit five people comfortably, and its rugged chassis makes it the most capable police pursuit vehicle with a 7,000-pound towing capacity.

Setting this F-150 apart from one you’d find on dealer lots is its recalibrated brake system with upgraded calipers and friction material, an upgraded front stabilizer bar, 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tires, a column shifter, a center seat delete, heavy-duty front seats with slim bolsters for easier entry and exit and anti-stab plates, vinyl rear seating for those “special” guests, and vinyl floor covering.

Also upgraded is its 240-amp alternator for handling all the police-spec electronics, a specially calibrated speedometer, engine hour and engine-idle hour meters, underbody skid plates, a class-IV hitch, and more.

So, next time you think you can beat the police by taking your chase off-road, you’d better think again.
