2016 Kia K900 Gets a New Engine
As we close out the 2015 calendar year, the 2016 models are starting to roll out. Today, Kia announced some minor upgrades for its K900 flagship in the 2016 model year, including a new engine.
The looks of the K900 continue on relatively unchanged, so it still has the premium appearance that allow it to compete with more upscale automakers. It does, however, get a new front grille, a new rear fascia with new chrome trim, new exhaust outlets, a new taillight design, and a new bumper. Also new are the revised 18- and 19-inch wheels.
Oddly enough, Kia released several images titled “2016 Kia K900,” but none of them show the changes that the automaker refers to.
The 2016 K900 not only gets a slight restyle, but it also gains some new tech bits. These include a Smart Power Trunk that open the trunk automatically when you stand near it for three seconds with the key fob, Smart Shift and Drive, Autonomous Emergency Braking, an upgraded navigation system, a 9.2-inch HD touchscreen, UVO Luxury Services that allows or remote start/stop, remote climate control, remote lock/unlock, and My Car Zone. The latter allows owners to set a curfew, limit speeds, and create a geofence.
The biggest announcement of 2016 is the addition of a new base engine: a 311-horsepower 3.8-liter V-6. With this new engine comes two new trim levels: V-6 Premium and V-6 Luxury. The 5.0-liter V-8 is still available as an option, and chances are it’ll continue with its output of 420 horsepower. The 2016 K900 will continue with an eight-speed auto transmission, but the new model year will come standard with paddle shifters.
Kia didn’t announce when the 2016 K900 will arrive on dealer lots, nor did it mention its starting price. Chances are its base price will be at least a few thousand dollars less than the V-8-powered 2015 K900’s $54,500 starting price.
