Tesla Hacker Claims 100 kWh Model S is Coming

Tesla has been working hard at perfecting its Model S with the addition of its 90 kWh model and “the D” all-wheel-drive system. So, what’s the next step for the all-electric performance sedan? Deliver even more range, of course.

According to Electrek.com, noted Model S hacker, Jason Hughes, has uncovered a secret message by hacking his Model S. He uncovered a string of text that when decoded by members at the TeslaMotorsClub.com forum, uncovered that the next Model S upgrade will be the addition of a P100D model.

A higher-capacity battery certainly makes sense at this point for the Model S, as it is already the most insane performance sedan on the road. It has little else to accomplish other than increasing its range and dragging more clients away from gasoline.

It remains unclear what a 100 kWh battery would do for the model S’ range, but the 10 kWh jump from the last update to 90 kWh is huge. Rumor has it that this 11 percent leap in capacity could increase the Model S’ range to a whopping 300-plus miles.

Following this revelation, the hacker claimed on Twitter that Tesla reset his updater and deleted the most recent update in response to him releasing his findings. Elon Musk responded to the accusatory tweet by saying “Wasn’t done at my request. Good hacking is a gift.” This implies that Musk is fine with Hughes hacking his creation, which aligns with what the CEO has said about hackers in the past.

Given the P100D is as close as Hughes claims, we should start learning more about it soon. Stay tuned and we’ll bring you all the latest info.
