There have been rumors and reports about an all-wheel-drive version of the F-Type pretty much since the sports car debuted. Until today, all of this talk has been little more than speculation and hoping, but today it becomes official, as Jaguar has announced it will unveil its AWD F-Type at the LA Auto show. What’s more, along with this debut will be seven — yes, S-E-V-E–N — other variants of the Jaguar F-Type.

Let’s start with the one that we know is coming, the F-Type AWD. According to Jaguar, the Instinctive All-Wheel-Drive system will be installed in the F-Type R Coupe variant, which cranks out 550 horses and 502 pound-feet of twist, and sprints to 60 mph in four seconds in its standard guise. Thanks to the added traction of all four tires spinning, Jaguar is claiming a 3.9-second run to highway speed with the AWD variant.

By looking at the images Jaguar included with its press release, it looks as if there are no exterior changes to the F-Type R AWD Coupe, but you can tell that it sits slightly higher than the standard model.

The other news that came from this confirmation is that the F-Type line up will grow by a total of eight variants in 2016, increasing from six to 12 different versions. If I were a glutton for punishment, I would likely think that Jaguar will simply add AWD to each of its current models, taking up six of those eight new versions. However, Jaguar said in its press release “The addition of all-wheel-drive is one of a number of performance enhancements to the award-winning Jaguar F-TYPE model range which will grow from six to 12 derivatives in the 2016 model year,” which to me means that the remaining seven derivatives will have their own performance enhancements.

Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long, as the full 2016 F-Type lineup, including the eight new variants, will be announced at the 2014 LA Auto show on November 19, 2014 at 2:40 p.m. PST. Let us know in the comments what variants you expect to see in LA.
