The Juke will continue to live on, according to a new press release from Nissan. Despite being hated by many, more than enough people have scooped up the odd-looking crossover to justify making a second generation of the thing.

Most likely, it will continue to be one weird duck, because so far that strategy has worked for the Juke. Just in the last two years, nearly 40,000 were purchased in the United States, making it a market force that Nissan would be stupid to ditch. While some people don’t get the attraction, for others it’s the kind of face that they just can’t resist.

It’s been confirmed that at least some of the Jukes will be made in the U.K. The vehicle will also be the first to be built on the completely new Renault-Nissan CMF-B shared platform, which stands for Common Module Family. As a result, many of the crossover’s resources will be the result of pooled resources, including its engineering and powertrain.

Nissan’s not saying much about what to expect under the hood, but it’s possible that the new engine will be an upgrade over the current turbo 1.6-liter four-banger. As has been the case with some modern vehicles, the new Juke could see a power and efficiency bump, which would be a welcome change. There’s even a possibility that the new engine could come from Mercedes, which has a current agreement with Nissan.

Another big detail that Nissan hasn’t released yet is the timing for the second generation. The 2015 Juke marked a refresh, so likely it’s at least a couple of years away. Many are hoping that Nissan takes its time developing the new Juke, keeping the crossover weird in a market that has become too homogeneous and boring for their taste.
