Some people complain that cars are becoming increasingly boring to drive. With technological aids becoming ever more popular in vehicles, these people lament that before too long people will be literally sleeping behind the wheel while cars drive themselves. While it’s true that some cars have grown relatively subdued over the years, there are still a handful of vehicles that provide an exhilarating experience. Vehicles that are perfect for someone interested in getting a their adrenaline going.

While researching for this list we realized that manufacturers are definitely aware that there still is and will always be a market for fun cars. Gas-thirsty muscle cars might be a thing of the past, but sporty, fun, and economical cars are here to stay. Buy any of the following seven cars if you want to smile instead of fall sleep behind the wheel of your next vehicle!

1. 2013 Subaru BRZ and the Scion FR-S

For once all of the hype surrounding the release of a new car model did not result in utter disappointment. Something magical happened when Subaru and Toyota got together and made a car. With the mechanicals from Subaru and the sleek styling from Toyota, what you get is an incredibly fun-to-drive rear-wheel-drive coupe that does not cost $40,000 or more. Sure, the car’s flat four engine only pushes out 200 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, but the its incredible balance and road handling quickly become addictive. Plus there are already tuning shops that have produced some decent superchargers and turbochargers for the BRZ/FR-S to boost power into the stratosphere if you so desire.

A Mazda mini-van is insanely fun to drive? Have you ever driven any type of performance vehicle?

What’s YOUR performance car, a Schwinn with a baseball card clothespinned into the spokes?

Uh. Tesla S. Someone is asleep at the wheel. Consumer Reports gave it its highest rating now for 2 straight years and it goes 0-60 in <4 seconds.

Can you go a single day without bitching about Obama? I absolutely hate ass hats like you who ruin every conversation with your stupid obama quips. Go to a political forum if you want to vent. All you are doing here is alienating people who look at you like some kind of obsessed retard, which does nothing to further your agenda.

Mazda’s FWD minivan, and not it’s RWD roadster that has outlived every competitor…LOL…why is the news full of these moronic lists? Oh, distraction from Obama…

Has it occurred to you that you would have to be pretty moronic yourself if you have to bring Obama into a sporty car comparison?

Just wondering, how on earth do you go from an article about cars to “Obama”? I wonder how many hours per day you waste obsessing about “Obama”! Methinks your mind is a one trick pony,,,,and I feel sorry for you. What a waste!

As the driver of a real performance car (Mazda RX8) I find the report that driving any mini van is a sad commentary. Maybe that report was to make the person who drives a mini van feel a bit better…..

What happened to the once fun-to-drive Mazda MX5 (Miata)?

“Insanely fun to drive” should involve a stick shift. I’m pretty sure just a couple of those cars offer this. How sad.
