2020 Cadillac XT5 Gets a New Engine, Sport Trim and More

The Cadillac XT5 just hit showrooms back in 2017, and GM’s luxury arm is already giving it an update. While the refresh isn’t too significant, it will usher in a revised look, updated tech, and a new base engine.

The big change for the 2020 XT5 will be an all-new Sport trim that better aligns it with the rest of Cadillac’s lineup. This new trim brings in a more performance-inspired appearance with dark trimming and a mesh grille. Speaking of the grille, the 2020 XT5’s other visual updates will include a new grille insert in all trims, updated 18-inch wheels on the Luxury and Premium trims, and new optional 20-inch wheels.

Inside, Cadillac will update the color options to give each trim more distinguished options, including a Jet Black/Kona Brown option with premium leather seats, and leather door inserts and armrests. The cabin will also gain an updated center console design that offers more storage, updated cup holders, a wrapped bin up front, standard heated front seats, updated 60/40 split-folding rear seats, a newly available Bose Performance Series audio system with new metal speaker grilles, and updated acoustical treatments to keep the peace inside.

On the tech side of things, the 2020 XT5 will inherit the newest Cadillac User Experience Interface, a new rotary interface with jog functionality, one-touch phone pairing, a 15-watt wireless charging pad, updated USB ports with Type-C ports, two new high-definition instrument panel display options, higher-resolution rearview and 360-degree cameras, updated automatic park assist, new rear pedestrian alert, and optional night vision.

Under its hood, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 will drop its standard 3.6-liter V-6 in favor of a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit with 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine will be standard in the Luxury and Premium Luxury trims, while the Sport trim will continue with the 310-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6.

The Luxury and Premium Luxury models will continue with their blend of soft ride and performance, but they will gain new struts for a more refined ride. The new Sport models will boast quicker-responding power steering, a performance-oriented chassis, dual-clutch Sport Control All-Wheel Drive with Active Yaw Control, adaptive suspension, and 20-inch wheels for enhanced performance.

The 2020 Cadillac XT5 will hit showrooms in late summer 2019. Stay tuned for updates on pricing and more on the 2020 XT5.
