Volkswagen Reveals the 2016 Beetle Denim
Volkswagen has the special-edition machine on “high” as we head into the 2016 model year. Today, it has announced that it will add a Beetle Denim to its lineup. This limited-edition model will hark back to the Beetle Jeans models of the 1970s, giving nostalgia buffs something to look forward to.
On the outside, the Beetle Denim, distinguishes itself from the crowd with two exclusive colors: Pure White and Stonewashed Blue. The convertible top lives up to this special model’s name, as it is dark blue and has a fabric texture similar to blue jeans.
The blue jeans inspiration carries into the cabin as well. In here, there is a light blue and silver dash pad and jeans-inspired seat pockets with red “Beetle” tabs. The seats are wrapped up in denim-color cloth with white piping and dark blue leatherette accents.
In terms of standard features, the Denim model comes pretty well equipped. It includes VW’s new MIB II Composition Color infotainment system, a 5-inch touchscreen, an auxiliary jack, SD card slots, a rearview camera, and Bluetooth connectivity.
Under its hood, the 2016 Beetle Denim comes standard with a 1.8-liter TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine that cranks out 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of twist. The engine mates to a six-speed auto transmission that delivers power to the front wheels.
Pricing is not available yet, but VW does mention that it will be a “value model” in its Beetle Convertible lineup. I would assume that this means the limited-edition model will run somewhere between $25,600 and $31,000 when it arrives in early 2016. Only 2,000 units will be available, so changes are this model will be tough to find.
