Here in the U.S., we are no longer privy to the awesomeness that is the Volkswagen Scirocco, which has resulted in a good bit of begging from hatchback fans here. Today, VW announced yet another version of the Scirocco that we cannot get our mitts on, and that is the Black Edition.

This special name is available with both the GT and R-Line trims of the Scirocco, giving buyers a pretty broad choice of features and drivetrains. Both models gain black-painted alloy wheels, black-painted roof, mirrors and rear spoiler, and 90 percent tinted rear glass. In the GT model, the aforementioned rollers measure 18 inches, while the R-Line model features 19-inch rollers.

While the modifications aren’t anything overwhelming, they are enough to set the Black Edition models apart from the rest of the lineup.

Unfortunately, these two special models do not get any performance upgrades. Under their hoods, they feature a range of gasoline and diesel options. In the gasoline-fueled models, the engine options are either a 125 PS (123-horsepower) 1.4-liter or a 180 PS (178-horsepower) 2.0-liter. On the diesel side of the spectrum, the Scirocco GT and R-Line have two 2.0-liter engines available producing 150 PS (148 horsepower) or 184 PS (181 horsepower).

Delivering the power to the front wheels is a six-speed manual transmission when equipped with the 1.4-liter engine, while all the other engines come standard with a six-cog manual but have the option for a dual-clutch unit. Sprint times to 62 mph range from 9.3 to 5.5 seconds, and top speed ranges from 126 mph to 155 mph, depending on the engine and transmission options.

Pricing for these new Black Edition models starts from £23,135 ($34,913) for the GT trim with the 1.4-liter engine. The Black Editions are available for order now, and delivery is set to occur in January 2016.
