Smart Adds a Brabus Sport Package to its Lineup
Brabus is making its way back into the U.S.-spec Smart lineup in a big way for the 2017 model year with its new Sport package for the fortwo.
This package isn’t one of those that just adds a few aesthetic bits to the tiny fortwo coupe and cabrio. Instead, this package actually makes the fortwo perform a tad better thanks to its updated suspension. This system lowers the ride height by 0.4 inches and includes a stiffer anti-roll bar and Brabus-tuned dampers. Also included in this package are new Monoblock IX wheels sized 16 inches up front and 17 inches out back. Wrapped around these wheels are 185/50R16 tires up front and 205/40R17 tires out back.
In addition to the handling updates, there are a few visual touches. On the outside, this kit adds Brabus wheel center caps, a matte-gray rear diffusor, and body-color Brabus front spoiler and rear apron. Inside, the Brabus Sport Package adds a three-spoke sport steering wheel, Brabus logos on the gear shifter and handbrake, brushed stainless-steel pedals with rubber grips, and steering-wheel-mounted shifter paddles on models equipped with the twinamic transmission.
Sadly, there are no updates to the fortwo’s 0.9-liter three-cylinder engine. This means that despite its more aggressive look and extra handling capabilities, it still produces just 89 horsepower and 100 pound-feet of torque, and takes more than 10 seconds to reach highway speeds.
This package will be available starting in the fall of 2016 on all fortwo coupe and cabrio models. Surprisingly, it will also be quite affordable at just $1,900.
