Skoda Could Return To The US
There’s nothing quite like driving a fine Czech-engineered car. While perhaps nobody has ever said that, rumor has it Volkswagen is thinking of pulling a hail Mary and sending Skoda back to the United States to turn things around.
We’re the second-largest automotive market in the world. Quite frankly Volkswagen seems to be clueless about what makes American consumers tick. Why not try throwing in a brand with the crossover named after a fictional beast that lives in the Himalayas?
On a serious note, Skoda would be a VW’s answer to Kia and Hyundai. The Koreans have been tearing it up lately by offering well-crafted vehicles at budget-friendly prices. Everyone wants a deal.
This rumor is being stirred up by a report from Automotive News Europe, otherwise I wouldn’t even be writing about it. Apparently Skoda has been lining things up with the U.S. Patent and Trademark offices so it could leap into this market, and openly admits it hasn’t ruled out the possibility.
With the VW Group in trouble here, they need to start pulling out all of the stops. This is a better move than creating a Texas-only Lambo pickup truck, but we’ll see if Skoda really makes a glorious return to the States.
