With the redesign of the C-Class Sedan for the 2015 model year, it was only a matter of time before the coupe got its moment on the operating table. Well, that time is now, as Mercedes has officially revealed the first of the revised C-Class Coupe lineup, the 2017 C300.

Like the C-Class Sedan, the C-Class Coupe will feature a fully redesigned body that will be a good bit larger than its predecessor. In fact, the C300 Coupe will be 3.7 inches longer, 1.6 inches wider, and rides on a 3.1-inch-longer wheelbase than the C-Class Coupe that predated it. When compared to the sedan, however, the coupe will be 0.6 inches lower.

Along with this larger body and wheelbase comes a cabin that has more legroom, shoulder room, and headroom.

Oddly enough, despite being significantly larger than the C-Class Coupe before it, the 2017 model will be lighter than its predecessor. It will also be stiffer and stronger than ever before. This is all thanks to advanced materials, like light-alloy fenders, hood and trunk lid, and the use of high-strength metals.

A close look at the redesign and you will quickly notice the top-down design theme at work here. This new C-Class Coupe looks almost like a downsized S-Class Coupe. I have to tip my cap to Mercedes for pulling this off without making it look goofy.

As with all Mercedes-Benz models, the 2017 C300 Coupe will be a rolling example of how to keep occupants safe. It will feature a handful of semi-autonomous driving features, like DISTRONIC PLUS with Steering Assist, BAS Plus rake Assist System, Active Lane Keeping Assistant, and PRE-SAFE PLUS. On top of these features will be adaptive front airbags, a driver-side knee airbag, driver and passenger pelvis airbags, front and rear window airbags, and optional rear side airbags.

New tech gadgets will be plentiful in the 2017 C300’s revamped cabin. They will include a navigation-linked climate control system that senses tunnels and closes the air recirculation flap upon entering them, and a new multimedia system with vibrant animations.

Under the hood of the C300 Coupe is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. While this is not an overly powerful engine, it should deliver great fuel economy and a respectable 0-to-60 mph time of slightly more than six seconds. The 2017 C300 will be available with rear- or all-wheel drive.

There are no pricing details available just yet, but look for the C300 Coupe to arrive at a price that is slightly higher than the C300 Sedan’s $38,400 base price. This new two-door C0Class will arrive in dealers in the spring of 2016.
